Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the performing arts, which are now known to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her to being in the "child prodigy" category. But for a person from Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and family, they had innate talents. Maureen entered the safe haven of her parents on August 17 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Her mother, Marguerita Lulburn FitzSimons was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also owned a part of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and loved playing athletic games. Her ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in athletics. It was evident when she was awarded each Feis in drama and theatre that Ireland had to provide. When she was in her 14th year she joined the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study operatic and classical vocals.
